Beginning Sounds Clip Art and another Freebie

Why does it seem like every year gets busier and busier?  Oh ya, it's only week 4 for my new school year!  I have been making new clip art sets to use in games for my ELL kiddos.  I have 22 total students and many of them are still learning the language.  Here is the newest set: Beginning Sounds.  I am working on CVC and Long Vowel sets too.  I will post those as soon as they are finished. CLICK HERE to download the beginning sounds set.

My students are working on sentence structure and I had someone request these Punctuation Heroes for their second grade group.  Just shrink them down and add them to Popsicle sticks for your students to use  as they are editing their work.  They can also be used on your bulletin boards as well.

Reading Street and a Freebie

I know some of you are and some may not be using the Reading Street program, but we have to in our district.  I actually don't mind it now because of all the progress the students are making!  As with any program, we find ourselves wanting to make things more interesting, fun, and of course, cute!  Last year I spent a lot of my time organizing ways to assess my students with the 190+ words they need to be able to read by the end of First Grade.  I made word cards to go with every unit AND every week.  Each one is labeled according to the weekly story and has a different color and picture to go with the stories.  This is on sale in my TpT store until midnight tomorrow.  Click the picture link below.

Our first 2 weeks of school have been Kinder review with letters, sounds, and High Frequency Sight words.  I have started introducing our Daily 5 centers this week and we are now learning Word Work.  Here are a few of the games we are playing and a FREEBIE!

I work with English Language Learners so I really try to find ways to incorporate language practice with the words they are learning.  They might be able to read the words, but do they understand how they are used in sentences?  I have added these new sight word sentence cards to my TpT store.  I use them with the Connect 4 game.  The students read a sentence card, then take a turn.  I also post them around the room and students will use them in the Writing Center as well.  They are on sale until midnight tomorrow so CLICK HERE to download.

Back to School Pirate Style

My first week of school is almost over and I am so glad!!  I can't wait for my new Firsties to become more independent and familiar with all our classroom routines!  We get so spoiled with our end of the year first graders and wish the new group could be just like them coming in....well...some of them anyway (hee hee).
How many of you have done a classroom theme every year?  I like changing things up a bit each year so it is different every time, but I decided to keep something that really worked for me last year, Pirates!  I have enough challenges this year with 22 ELL students, 4 of which do not speak any English or very little.  So I am trying to make this year as simple as I can.  I really loved the Pirate Theme last year so I am doing it again.  I changed my room around but am using the same theme and a few of the same activities, but some activities are new this year.  I have just added "Back to School Pirate Style" to my TpT store.  It not only has writing activities/glyphs and math center games, there are also items to decorate your classroom with.  Click the link below to download for yourself!  I hope you all have a wonderful start to your new year!!
