It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

It is definately beginning to look a lot like Christmas around our house!  Cinnamon scented candles and fresh baked cookies in the air!  My daughter can't wait to set up the Christmas tree and decorate this weekend!  Can you tell I am ready for the holidays and winter break!!  Oh, I might as well include my students in that last sentence as well.  OMG they will be a handlful the next 3 weeks!  I know I'm supposed to enjoy the Thanksgiving break (which I still am), but I had to create a little something to keep my students engaged when we go back next week and have it ready for you all to include in your classroom before our break!  So, here it is, as requested by a few wonderful teachers who enjoy my teacher store and especially my math centers.  My newest product is "Math Centers Holiday Edition".  Come by my store to see more.  I want to mention that I also offer freebies so, if you follow me at my teacher store, you will get email updates whenever I add new products and any freebies!  Enjoy and Happy Thanksgiving!

Busy As A Bee!

I wish I had more time to post these days!  Busy!  Busy!  Busy!  We have been enjoying some fun things these past few weeks!!  I am so proud of my First Graders for all they have accomplished so far!  They surprise me everyday with their improvements in reading and math!

Here are a few things we have done these past couple of weeks to make learning fun!

My students learned about why leaves change colors.  Here are pictures of their tree glyphs!

We also did a leaf observation book.  We wished we had the pretty fall colors here in Southern Arizona but did our best to enjoy what we could from pictures.  This was a great book to use!

As part of our Scott Foresman Reading Street this week, we learned about communities of insects: Honey Bees!  We did a compare and contrast with Ants and Bees.  Then we used the Bee and Ant glyph templates for our writing activity.

Our Word Work and Math Centers were filled with more fun with bees!
Here is a differentiated addition and subtraction game.

I made the flower out of felt fabric and used laminated honeycombs (with felt on the back) with long /ee/ words for the students to use to build the pollen in the middle of the flower.

Check back to see what we are doing with these little guys next week!

New Thanksgiving Unit coming soon!

Have a great Veterans Day!

Black Friday!

That insane day called "Black Friday" is just around the corner!  Alarm clocks set to go off at a ridiculous hour, people camped out at the malls to be the first through the door, and the overall mad dashes to find the best deals for the holidays.  Well, because October flew by so fast, I thought I would start the shopping trend early this year!   My Black Friday Sale begins today! Stop by my Teachers Pay Teachers store  for 20% off all my products including a few new ones!  Sale ends Monday!

Since we live in Southern Arizona, we don't get the beautiful fall colors like most of you all might.  So, I tried to bring as much of it to my students as possible.  Here is a quick glance of what kinds of things we did with my new math and literacy unit "Why Do Leaves Change Color".

This was a very kid friendly book and my studnets really enjoyed it!

I started them out thinking about what they already knew about leaves and why they might change.  Then we came back to our chart after we learned a little more.

The students are finishing their tree glyphs like this one to hang around the classroom.
